Dave Cowens is a retired American professional basketball player and coach. He was born on October 25, 1948 in Newport, Kentucky. He played college basketball at Florida State University and was drafted by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 1970 NBA Draft. He was a two-time NBA champion, an eight-time All-Star, and the 1973 NBA MVP. Cowens was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991. After his playing career, he coached the Celtics and the Charlotte Hornets. He also served as the head coach of the Golden State Warriors.
