Mzi Khumalo is a South African businessman and entrepreneur. He is the founder and chairman of the Mzi Group, a diversified investment holding company with interests in mining, energy, financial services, and property. He is also the founder and chairman of the Mzi Khumalo Foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses on education, health, and economic development in South Africa. Khumalo was born in Durban, South Africa, and attended the University of Natal, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He began his career in the banking industry, working for Standard Bank and then Nedbank. In 1994, he founded the Mzi Group, which has since grown to become one of the largest black-owned investment holding companies in South Africa. Khumalo is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Institute of Directors in South Africa. He is also a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on Africa. In addition, he is a board member of the South African National Parks Board and the South African National Parks Trust. Khumalo has been recognized for his business and philanthropic achievements. In 2011, he was awarded the Order of Ikhamanga, a South African national honor, for his contribution to business and philanthropy. In 2012, he was named one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in South Africa by the Sunday Times.

In 2002, Khumalo founded gold producer and mining company Metallon Corporation, where he is currently Non-Executive Chairman.
He served alongside figures such as Nelson Mandela for anti-apartheid activities before being released in 1990. He was the 27th prisoner to enter Robben Island in 1979, and was given prisoner number 2779.
In the 1970s Khumalo joined the African National Congress, serving in its military wing. In 1978, he was arrested and charged with treason, and sentenced to 20 years in prison on Robben Island.
